—Havana Libre

Summer whispered to me next to the sea

People laughing, dancing. The sound of singing in the stark darkness.

Standing ten deep next to one another. They watch the novelas on the cell phones .

In the park where the young one do the flips and the ladies admire them.

Their souls sparkling under the high noon sun.

Sons and daughters of the ancestors.

The emblems of the earth.

A thousand hues standing in the sand.

In the sky, the fullest of love and life.

Longing on the island to be with any of the many that I’ve loved.

These days. A long way from all that I’d known.

Here amongst all that is us.
